Fall 2019, Mapping Home - like a tree, each ring is a year in my life, and the different colors symbolize different ways in which home has changed for me. I like to imagine everyone has a different map of home that grows with them.

Project Ideation

many graphic/informational visual diagrams now use a similar ring model to convey information
In the spring of 2021, I facilitated a Climate Action Workshop. The goal was to use art making as a tool to teach and reflect about climate change. I decided to have participants map their lives in tree rings. This was intended to facilitate connection to the natural environment and the role that each of us play in climate change, regardless of personal commitment to the issue.

The tree ring exercise was also a means of connecting with one another. Sharing what different colors and shapes symbolized for us, why we made the drawing decisions that we did, and creating space to talk about life experiences that maybe aren't an everyday talking point.
Below is a participant explaining their artistic decisions in why they made their rings a certain way.

Hambach Forest, 2019

Lignite coal (a huge pollutant) is used to make fertilizer. We eat on the information that tells us the impact of lignite, on the teetering branches of a forest ecosystem being removed for lignite coal extraction.
